The Sava River valley, as well as other areas along the Sava tributaries, are all prone to flooding. The region has repeatedly suffered severe damage by floods, particularly during 2010 and 2014, mainly due to inadequate flood protection warning and prevention systems and facilities.
The WBIF has contributed to the improvement of such systems and facilities, development of flood risk maps and river basin management plans, as well as to the construction and regulation of rivers.
