Orient/East Med Corridor: Serbia - Bulgaria CXc Rail Interconnection, Nis - Dimitrovgrad-Bulgarian border– Electrification and signalling

Project Description

Single-track, non-electrified, about 97 km long railway line Nis - Dimitrovgrad is a constituent part of the main European railway route E-70 and Pan-European Corridor X (Branch Xc) which runs through Serbia. This is the only part of Corridor X which has not been electrified and on which the traffic is realised by means of diesel traction, equipped with mechanical signalling and overhead phone lines.

This investment concerns the electrification and signalling on the Crveni Krst-Pantalej section (connection with the Nis bypass) and Sicevo – Stanicenje – Dimitrovgrad sections. The aim of electrification and equipping of the railway line Niš – Dimitrovgrad – Bulgarian Border with signalling-interlocking and telecommunication devices is to provide a safe, reliable and modern infrastructure, and thus create the prerequisites for rendering transport services of higher quality on the Serbian railway network.
