Project of Mutual Interest: North Macedonia – Greece Gas Interconnector

Project of Mutual Interest: North Macedonia – Greece Gas Interconnector

Project Description

This investment concerns the construction of a 68 km-long North Macedonia’s section of a natural gas interconnector with Greece. In North Macedonia, the pipeline will run from Gevgelija to Negotino where it will connect to the Shtip-Negotino pipeline.

The construction of the gas interconnector is a key energy infrastructure investment in North Macedonia that will help mitigate market failures in the energy sector, diversify energy sources, enhance the security of supply, and increase the competitiveness of the energy market for the benefit of consumers. It will also help the entire region gradually move away from coal while increasing connectivity and creating the conditions for a common regional market and attracting new investments.

The action has been indicated as a Project of Mutual Interest according to the EU Energy Community and included as a flagship project in the EU's Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.
