Bosnia and Herzegovina, Visoko Water Supply Project: Mostre Subsystem and Water Network Reconstruction Phase 3

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Visoko Water Supply Project: Mostre Subsystem and Water Network Reconstruction Phase 3

Project Description

The city of Visoko is located in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 30 kilometres north of Sarajevo, and is home to over 41,000 people.

This infrastructure investment rehabilitates and extends the water supply system of the city in three phases:

  • Construction of the Gracanica Subsystem, which was finalised in 2019;
  • Reconstruction of the existing water supply network, which was finalised in 2020;
  • Construction of the Mostre Subsystem, which is planned for completion in 2023.

The WBIF co-finances Phase 3, which extends the water supply system to one large part of the city, Mostre, and constructs one main reservoir in Dubrave.

Around 67% of the city’s population did not have access to reliable water sources before the start of the implementation of the project. Once completed, 87% of the population, or 33,000 people, will benefit from safe drinking water.

The investments target (a) expansion and rehabilitation of the water supply network, which will enable connection of new consumers and at the same time, through the provision of running water, improve the living standards of the population in the municipality, and (b) reduced water losses, improved resilience to climate change and improved quality of supply through repairs of the existing network.
