Post-earthquake Housing Reconstruction in Kraljevo: Technical Advisory, Designs, Tender Documents

Project Description

In November 2010, Serbia was hit by an earthquake that caused considerable damage to the city of Kraljevo: 15,333 individual houses suffered varying degrees of damage, some 800 were irreparably destroyed, and around 1,800 had serious structural damage. Additionally, 211 condominium buildings were damaged citywide, of which 33 with major structural damage and 188 with less serious damage.

To address the dispossessed families' needs, Kraljevo Municipality initiated the construction of compensatory permanent housing solutions for 360 families whose dwellings were so affected that they needed alternative arrangements. The intervention has foreseen the construction of 360 housing units in four housing buildings, the demolition of 21 houses that have no longer been safe for living, and landscaping and infrastructure works for the entire estate.

WBIF provided a technical assistance grant to assist a project management unit (PMU), the local government of Kraljevo, the Republic Housing Agency (RHA), and the Ministry for Construction and Urban Planning (MCUP) during the preparatory and implementation phases through the provision of advisory services and supervision during construction/demolition as well as other aspects related to project implementation (environmental, social, planning and energy efficiency).
