Preliminary Design of the Ionian Adriatic Gas Pipeline - Montenegro and Albania Sections

Project Description

The Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) is designed to interconnect the existing and planned gas transmission system of Croatia with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in Albania. It aims to establish a new supply route for natural gas from the Middle East and Caspian region, northwards along the Adriatic coast. The construction of this transmission pipeline, over 500 km long, will provide a sustainable, diversified and reliable supply of natural gas for Albania, Montenegro, southern Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Following the conclusion of the WBIF-funded Feasibility study for the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline, this WBIF technical assistance grant has funded the development of the Preliminary design for the Albanian and Montenegrin sections of the IAP, compliant with relevant country legislation, including independent technical review.

Technical assistance also included the preparation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for the two sections, mitigation strategies, documentation for permit applications, and project implementation plans for Albania and Montenegro, as well as assistance to the PMU in obtaining the required consents, authorisations, and permits.
