REEP Plus, Window 4 - Public Buildings: Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings

Project Description

The primary instrument of the European Commission to support energy efficiency in public buildings in the Western Balkans region is the Regional Energy Efficiency Programme (REEP/REEP Plus), consisting of four support windows.

Through the REEP component “Direct Financing to Public Buildings”, the concept of “Nearly Zero-Energy Building” (NZEB) was integrated to support the WB economies in improving energy efficiency in public buildings, such as schools, hospitals, or government buildings.

The NZEBs have been identified in the European Commission’s Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans as Flagships within the “Renovation Wave”, which is part of the Investment window “Clean Energy”. These investments contribute significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improve the living standards and health of citizens.

WBIF has allocated a TA grant for the purposes of supporting Western Balkans beneficiaries in developing a national definition for Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEB) and, if necessary, national NZEB action plans.
