Serbia, Construction of the Struganik Dam: Feasibility Study, ESIA, Preliminary Design

Project Description

In recent history, the Kolubara basin has been hit by significant floods with great harmful effects, primarily on the population and economy. Since 2000, Kolubara with its tributaries has flooded the territory of Valjevo, Mionica and Lajkovac several times.

After the floods in 2014, the Study on Flood Management in Kolubara River Basin was developed to help reduce future flood risk. The Struganik dam is defined as one of the options for flood protection in the Kolubara river basin. The Struganik dam and reservoir on the Ribnica River will improve integrated water management in terms of protecting harmful effects of water and enhancing environmental protection and sustainable spatial development.

This WBIF technical assistance grant finances the preparation of the Feasibility Study (FS), Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), and Preliminary Design (PD) for the construction of the dam.
