Construction of sewage collectors and wastewater treatment & disposal plant in Cazin

Construction of sewage collectors and wastewater treatment & disposal plant in Cazin

Project Description

Cazin is a regional town in northwest Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city's public sewerage system has been in poor condition and not sufficient for both waste and rainwater. Due to the lack of funds over the years, the operation and maintenance of the sewage system have been limited to emergency interventions to fix the main causes of bottlenecks in the network.

Only 10% of the population and 23% of the companies have been connected to the existing sewer network. 58% of the population and companies use septic tanks that are deteriorated and obsolete. 32% of the households, which do not have septic tanks, discharge wastewater directly to watercourses, open channels and karts’ sinkholes. Thus, the estimated quantities of wastewater seepage directly into the underground have been significant.

In these circumstances, the construction of a sewer system and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Municipality of Cazin has been deemed necessary. WBIF has provided technical assistance for the preparation of a Feasibility Study, Detailed Design and Tender Documents to support the preparation of investments.
