Flood Risk Management for the Republic of Srpska

Flood Risk Management for the Republic of Srpska

Project Description

The Bosnia and Herzegovina entity, Republika Srpska (RS) has repeatedly suffered serious damage caused by having an inadequate flood prevention system during high water levels. The Sava River valley together with areas along the lower parts of its tributaries - Drina, Una, Ukrina, Bosna and Vrbas are all prone to flooding. Therefore, it has been necessary to rehabilitate and upgrade the damaged structures, implement risk mitigation measures, and provide protection against future flooding.

WBIF has allocated a technical assistance grant for the preparation of:

  • Emergency repairs of the key flood protection infrastructure along the river Sava and its tributaries, the rivers Una, Bosna, Drina, Vrbas and Ukrina in Republika Srpska;
  • Flood Risk Management and Flood Prevention plans, including investments such as early warning systems and watershed management measures in the catchments of the Sava river tributaries.

In addition to the preparation of the proposed measures classified as immediate and urgent, technical assistance was provided for tender evaluations, reporting, and preparation of several project documents, capacity building, training activities, and financial management assistance.
