Feasibility Study - Fuel Switching and System Expansion for District Heating in Gjakova

Feasibility Study - Fuel Switching and System Expansion for District Heating in Gjakova

Project Description

The District Heating Company in Gjakova commenced its operations in 1982 with a capacity of 38 MW but it operated at only 20 MW. It was designed to supply heat to domestic and industrial consumers as well as to public institutions and businesses. As the district heating system has relied on heavy fuel oil, the company’s operations have become costly, as the price of the fuel has risen significantly over years.

WBIF has funded an Identification Study to examine the potentials of fuel switching, clarify the need for rehabilitation of the existing district heating network, and recommend network expansions according to market analysis.
